W Aspen.

A bold, design-forward luxury hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain — steps from the Silver Queen Gondola at 550 S. Spring Street. W Aspen is home to the only year-round public rooftop in town (the WET Deck pool and bar), the 39 Degrees après lounge, ski-in/ski-out access, and the Sky Residences, a limited collection of slope-side ownership units. The first new luxury hotel built in Aspen in 25 years.

Most of Aspen's grand hotels trade on heritage — the Jerome, the Little Nell, the St. Regis. W Aspen does the opposite. It opened in 2019 as the first ground-up luxury hotel the town had seen in a quarter-century, and it arrived with a deliberately different posture: louder, younger, more design-driven, built around a rooftop scene rather than a wood-paneled lobby. Whether that's the Aspen you want is the whole question.

What's not in question is the location. W Aspen sits at the base of Aspen Mountain, roughly a two-minute walk from the Silver Queen Gondola — genuine ski-in/ski-out access on the edge of downtown, which is a rare combination. You can ski to the door, drop your boots, and be at a restaurant on the pedestrian mall within minutes. For a certain kind of trip, that geography alone justifies the rate.

The building occupies the former Sky Hotel site, a beloved après spot that Northridge Capital ran for sixteen years before redeveloping it. The bones of that history survive in 39 Degrees, the reborn après bar, and in the property's social, slightly irreverent personality.

Why Stay Here.

· The Case for W Aspen ·

The single biggest reason is the WET Deck — Aspen's only year-round, all-weather public rooftop. A heated pool and hot tub, fire pits, cabanas, a full bar, a DJ booth, and 360-degree views of Aspen Mountain and the valley. In a town where most of the great views are private, a public rooftop pool with a bar is genuinely unusual, and it's the thing people remember.

The second is the location: true ski-in/ski-out at the base of the gondola, steps from downtown dining, galleries, and shopping. The third is the W service layer — Whatever/Whenever concierge, W Wheels valet, and a complimentary BMW available once per stay to explore the valley. And from November through April, an on-site Four Mountain Sports ski and snowboard shop handles rentals and demos without leaving the building.

The place to see and be seen is the WET Deck — Aspen's only year-round, all-weather public rooftop, with a heated pool, fire pits, and panoramic mountain views.

The Rooms.

· 88 Guestrooms & Suites ·

W Aspen has 88 guestrooms and suites across a compact, modern building. Rooms are contemporary rather than rustic — flat-screens, work desks, mini-bars, air conditioning, and balconies with mountain or town views in many categories. This is W design language: bold color, clean lines, and a deliberate break from the antler-and-leather alpine template.

It's a 4-star property rather than a sprawling 5-star resort, and the room footprint reflects that — efficient and stylish rather than palatial. Couples rate it especially well; it's less suited to large families needing space, where the Sky Residences (below) make more sense.

What It Costs.

· Rates & Fees ·

Rates swing hard with the season — this is Aspen. Off-peak and shoulder dates can start in the low-to-mid $400s per night for a queen room; peak winter and event weeks climb well past $800–$1,200+ for kings and larger rooms. The numbers below are representative ranges seen across booking partners, not official quotes — always confirm live rates for your dates.

· Queen Room ·
From ~$406–$750 / night depending on season

Eat & Drink.

· On-Site Bars & Dining ·
· WET Deck ·
Rooftop pool, bar & grill — seafood, burgers, curated cocktails, year-round views. Lunch & dinner.
· 39 Degrees ·
The reborn après bar — an underground ultra-lounge and grotto with crushed velvet, a commissioned mural, and late-night energy.
· Hidalgo / Grotto ·
Speakeasy-style cocktail lounge — playful, creative takes on the classics with curated music.
· Living Room ·
The signature W lobby bar — dynamic cocktails and cuisine that spills out to a second-floor patio and fire pit.

The Sky Residences.

· Ownership & Longer Stays ·

Above the hotel sit the Sky Residences at W Aspen — a limited collection of eleven W-branded residences (six three-bedroom and five two-bedroom) on the third and fourth floors, slope-side on Aspen Mountain. These are a shared-ownership product, not standard hotel rooms, with gourmet kitchens, generous balconies, and views of Aspen Mountain, Independence Pass, Red Mountain, or downtown.

Owners get a private, residences-only rooftop deck with a spa, lounge seating, BBQ grills, an outdoor kitchen, and a fire pit — separate from the public WET Deck — plus year-round equipment storage and full hotel services (housekeeping, valet, in-residence dining, pre-arrival prep). For families or groups who come to Aspen repeatedly and want space plus hotel service, the residences are the reason to look at W beyond a nightly stay.

· Good to Know ·

The Bottom Line.

· Who It's For ·

W Aspen is the bold, social, design-forward alternative to Aspen's heritage hotels. If your ideal trip involves a rooftop pool with a DJ, ski-in/ski-out access, a house BMW, and a base steps from the gondola and the mall, it's one of the best-positioned hotels in town — and the only one with a public rooftop scene like the WET Deck.

If you're after hushed, old-world alpine luxury and a quiet fireside read, the Little Nell or the Hotel Jerome will suit you better. W is loud on purpose. For the right traveler — and for groups looking at the Sky Residences — that's exactly the appeal.
